ABOUT
Department of Physics
Welcome to the department of Physics at Mysuru Royal Institute of Technology (MRIT). The department of Physics was established in the year 2015 and it is one of the important departments for engineering students. The department has one Professor and one Assistant Professor along with one instructor.
The department imparts education in Basic Science both in theory and practicals. The department has a well equipped laboratory that enables the students to apply the classroom theoretical concepts in a practical interface.

HOD’s Profile
Dr. Shivalingegowda, Professor of Physics is heading the department of Physics at MRIT. He has more than 36 years of teaching experience. He served more than 20 years in PU and Degree Colleges at Bharathi College, Bharathinagara and more than 15 years as a Professor & Head in the department of Physics at PES College of Engineering, Mandya, and he retired on 31-05-2023.
He has published eight scholarly articles in National/International journals, more than 15 papers in conferences and symposia and he has guided 09 students for M.Phil. He was awarded as best paper presenter in the international conference at London UK. He has been awarded as Best NSS officer and his NSS Unit won the Best NSS Unit award from University of Mysore, Mysuru.

Course Learning Objectives:
This course will enable the students to:
- Define the laws and principles of Physics used in the topics of the course pertaining to Engineering field.
- Explain the concepts and theories used in the topics to understand the properties and applications relevant to Engineering field.
- Build a foundation in formulating the expressions for the quantities and solve the problems by applying the knowledge of Mathematical Science pertaining to Engineering and Technology.
